Aspire to be the best

Dundee's 1st XV play in the Scottish Hydro Electric Premier Division 2 in season 2008/2009. In recent seasons they have played in Premier 1, won the BT Shield competition as well as contesting two BT Scottish Cup Finals.

Competition at this level provides an ideal platform for players with ambitions to play professional rugby or at a high level while remaining amateur.

Dundee's 2nd XV play in the 1st Division of the 2nd XV league giving players who aspire to 1st XV rugby the chance to develop their skills against the best 2nd XV sides in the country. This includes most of the Premier 1 2nd XVs and is backed up by unrivalled specialist coaching and support.

Dundee Rugby has a tradition of grooming players to play club and age group international rugby or to gain professional contracts. In addition the club has developed ambitious young players from the 2nd and 3rd XVs as well as other local sides to play in Premier 1, Scottish Cup Finals at Murrayfield and the Melrose Sevens.

All in all Dundee Rugby offers unrivalled opportunities to players of all levels and continues to provide the best rugby in the area.

Play for fun

However it's not all deadly serious with plenty scope for the social player to get a regular game and enjoy their rugby - and even some training - in top class facilities with good friends.

In addition, the social scene at Mayfield is thriving and player driven so there's always something going on.

Utilise the best facilities

Not only does Dundee rugby offer top class coaching but with a multi-million pound sports centre next to the pitches and clubhouse, the facilities at Mayfield are the best in the area by far.

There are floodlit training areas, artificial surfaces and indoor facilities to ensure training goes ahead regardless of weather.

Both the All Blacks and Wallabies have played tour matches at Mayfield.

University connections

Dundee Rugby is the first choice for students coming to study at Dundee and Abertay Universities. Dundee's coaches have worked closely with Dundee University teams over the last few seasons and the club boasts several players from the student community who have starred at all levels.

Overseas players

There is a long tradition of overseas players at Dundee Rugby and the club has always proved to be a popular choice for those travellers who don't want to lose their sharpness playing in the lower leagues while still enjoying their time abroad.

Of the many who have gone on to succeed at 1st XV level their contributions on the park have been just as valuable as the chance for local players to experience and learn from international ideas and attitudes.
