George's honours include,
George F Ritchie will be remembered as Dundee HSFP RFC's historic first Scotland cap, won in 1932 against England. Club captain, George was actually named in the Scottish Trial Team of January 1930 but had to wait a further two years before pulling on the navy blue No. 8 jersey for Scotland. Sadly that 19th March 1932 encounter ended 16 - 3 to England however George's pre-eminent place in the history of Dundee HSFP RFC remains undiminished Legend has it that his cap tally might have been greater had he not thrown a committeeman's bowler hat across a railway line. George's prowess for the oval ball game survived down the generations and re-emerged in grandson Andy Nicol, who went on to captain every Scotland side he played for, lift the Heinekin Cup as captain of Bath, and the Calcutta Cup as Scotland captain in 2000.
