Richard's honours include,
Dundee born and schooled, Glasgow pro, Richie Vernon was one of Dundee's allocated professionals in season 2007/2008. He joined fellow Scotland Under 20 teammates, Alan Dymock, Cammy Ferguson and Danny Levison and was a valuable addition to the squad. Richie has played for Scotland at under-18A, under-18, under-19 and under-20 grades as well as having been in the Scotland sevens squad and was also in the Great Britain sevens squad in the 2005 World Games in Duisburg, Germany. Later that year he scored a try against Italy on his under-19 international debut, and was an ever-present second-row throughout Scotland’s four matches in season 2005-2006. He was also an ever-present in the IRB Under 19 World Championship in Dubai in April 2006. Richie was Scotland’s top try-scorer in that tournament with two against Japan and one each against Romania and Samoa. He also played in the 2007 Under 20 IRB World Championship tournament. Richie was picked again for Scotland Sevens in 2007/2008 before gaining his first Scotland A cap in November 2008 against Georgia, scoring twice. Injury affected Richie's appearances for Glasgow before Andy Robinson selected him again for Scotland A in the 2009 IRB Nations Cup in Bucharest. Scotland A won that tournament with Richie scoring the only try of the game against France A in the final.
